IUEC Safety Stand Down 2024

April 28th is Workers Memorial Day in the United States and the National Day of Mourning in Canada. This day is also recognized globally as the World Day for Safety and Health and the International Commemoration Day for the Dead and Injured. It is not by chance that April 28th was selected to observe this day of mourning as it also pays tribute to the legislative anniversary of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 which was enacted on April 28, 1971.

The IUEC joins together with our employers on April 28th to promote a safer and healthier workplace by holding safety meetings, tool box talks and sending out safety messages.

Please take a moment to reflect on the 402 Brothers and Sisters we have lost on the job, who are recognized at our Member Memorial and focus on how we can improve our sense of awareness to daily hazards present in the workplace.

As part of our IUEC Safety Stand Down, we encourage all to participate in the National Safety Stand Down to Prevent Falls in Construction. Register your program and use these links to receive a Certificate of Participation and to download the Harness Inspection Guidelines. Please assist our members and employers during job site visits to inspect fall protection equipment. Remember to inspect cable grabs, lanyards, SRL’s, lifelines, anchor points, anchorages and remove all damaged or outdated PFAS equipment from service.
