IUEC Safety Committee
Purpose And Objectives
The International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) Safety Committee will consist of Safety Directors and other Committee members appointed from within the ranks of the IUEC membership by the General President. The Committee’s mission is to reduce unsafe workplace conditions in which our members work by 1) gathering information about serious worksite accidents in the elevator industry and otherwise identifying unsafe workplace conditions; 2) educating our members about safety risks on the job; and 3) making safety recommendations to employers operating in the industry, as appropriate.
The Committee will investigate fatal and other serious elevator industry work place accidents as soon as possible after the accident occurs. As part of their investigation, representatives of the Committee will travel to the scene of the accident and speak with members, employers, and third parties about the accident and will examine the work area where the accident occurred. After completing its investigation, the Committee will produce a report to the General President detailing its findings. In investigating and reporting on an accident, the purpose and goal of the Committee will not be to assign blame or legal responsibility for the accident to any person or party but, rather, to identify safety risks and job hazards to other IUEC members so that they might avoid similar accidents during the course of their own employment.
In undertaking this Mission and in carrying out its activities, neither the Safety Committee nor the IUEC is assuming any legal duty or responsibility of any employer to provide a safe work place for IUEC members and other employees represented by the IUEC.
